New Items ...

Saturday saw us visit our favourite twice-yearly church sale and it yielded some great new inventory.

The most exciting is this very old remington typewriter. I blogged about one very similar (if not the same) earlier in the year after missing out on it on eBay. We got this for a great price and with a bit of elbow grease will come up looking fabulous!

It is not in working condition but would look great as a display piece at your event or photo shoot.

We have other typewriters available for hire which will be listed on facebook in the coming days.

Other items recently added to our inventory include a retro stool and vintage bird cage as well as some great blackboards.

I do need a little bit of advice though.

DIY Project I
Once I find the perfect fabric, is it as simple as stapling the new fabric nice and tight over the existing seat?

DIY Project II

The bird cage shell is made out of a metal-type material but the base is plastic. The stand is something similar to wrought iron and looks like it could be polished up. How would you attack this? Would you leave it as is or use spray paint or paintbrush to renovate it? What colour do you think?

Would love to hear your thoughts!

Libby and Peter's Wedding

Sorry for the delay in posting but I'm excited to share with you the results of our first photo shoot. We were uber happy with the results and the bridal party and photographers seemed pretty rapt too.

The following photos were taken on my iphone.

see anything you like? All items are available for hire.

For a full look at the wedding, go here. The bride has impeccable style as you will see from the reception styling, her dress and the stunning flowers.

To finish, I thought I'd share a little outtake from the afternoon.

Mum made a bit of a boo-boo with the letters thankfully before the gang showed up. I still look at this and giggle. She hadn't even had a drink!

A big thanks to Darren from ckmetrophotos for recommending us to the bride and of course to Libby for booking us!

Our First Styling Gig

Posts are infrequent at the moment but I hope to make posting over here much more regular as business picks up.

We are VERY excited to be styling our first wedding photo shoot next Saturday at Boyce Gardens in Toowoomba. The client wants a vintage, romantic style setting and I am using this picture which I found on pinterest as my inspiration.

The client and the photographer LOVE it too so that helps : )

I think this scene has a bit too much going on but I adore the lanterns, the bike leaning against the tree, the ladder and just generally the pretty colours used throughout.

I'm actually thinking of spraypainting a vintage picnic basket to match in with the beautiful romantic tones that the client is looking for ... much like this.

I so cannot wait for next Saturday! I hope it is a lovely day for Libby and her husband-to-be.

I will be sharing some behind-the-scenes photos with you very shortly!

Winner will be drawn on the 24th March.

A new logo and some prettiness!

Thanks to Rocket Creative Design and a whole bunch of facebook friends and family, we were lucky enough to win a gold logo development package worth $500! We are excited that soon we will have a professionally designed logo and here's hoping it increases our business!

We would love to create a setting something like this for a couple. So pretty and whimsical!

Flea Market Finds

You'll be sick of seeing what I've purchased pretty soon because I suppose there is a recurring theme.

...You guessed it. Typewriters.

I've added another one to the collection - a beautiful black Corona in its very own sturdy carry case. It was $15.00 from a garage sale.

I will be selling some of my least favourite typewriters (and other stuff including vintage clothes) this weekend at the annual Toowoomba Swap Meet - arguably the largest in Queensland and one of the largest in Australia. Let's pray that this stupid weather decides to behave itself and we are actually presented with two summer days!

I'm unsure of its age, but research on the web leads me to believe it's reasonably old and worth a decent amount of money. It would look great as a prop for a wedding.

I also couldn't resist this (what looks like vintage) lace tablecloth still in its packet. Not sure if/how I'll use it but there is no rush : )

Till next time, Peta xxx

Lovey Dovey Shoot

We were lucky enough to be contacted by the talented Loren Jarvis to help out with some props for an epic lovey dovey she had been planning for months. We got together a pile of vintage books, some tagged glass jars, a newsboys hat, popcorn bucket and a vintage HMV TV to assist in the creation of a fantastic setting. I also helped Loren out on the day with a touch of styling and just generally being her assistant - even if I wasn't very helpful!

Loren has already released some of the images and I cannot wait to see the rest.

Here are some behind the scenes shots from the day.

A little bit of GOLD in my inbox

Was just casually checking the business email address not expecting any actual jobs to appear but was pleasantly surprised with this request:

I am on a Committee at a daycare centre and we are organising a fundraising Race day at Clifford Park on 28 April 2012. It is a 1920's Black and White theme day. I always find that whenever I get dressed up for a function there is never a chance for a decent photo unless it's a self taken iPhone one. I had mentioned to the commitee about having a photo booth/prop set up in our theme and have a pro photographer on hand to take pictures of guests that they can then purchase, so both a nice memento and a fundraiser as well.

Would providing and setting up props for the photos be something that you could be interested in?

um ... YES!

I'm thinking oodles of pearls, moustaches, hats, gloves, fur, feathers, vintage cameras, pipes and guns ... fake of course.

Give me a home among the gum trees

Browsing items near and far on gumtree had not yet yielded any results until the other day when I almost shouted in delight after reading an ad for typewriters in Drayton - an outer suburb of Toowoomba.

After a bit of an SMS conversation I arranged to go check out what was on offer after work.

This is what greeted me.

Need I say more?!

Vintage pink typewriters are EXTREMELY rare and I'm guessing Sophie over at Her Library Adventures is going to be a wee bit jealous as thrifting a pink typewriter comes in at number 46 on her life to-do list.

The larger Remington one didn't grab me as much but I decided to get it as I missed out on a beautiful one on ebay a couple of weeks ago and felt I needed to fill the void.

This was the ebay one. It sold for $36.05. I think my max bid was $35.00. BOO

Some more images.

Both available for hire!

2012 ...

On new years a friend suggested that we book a stall at the largest wedding expo in Toowoomba to get our name out there. She was enthusiastic and very positive that no one in our area offers what we are offering and that may just be what people don't know that they want. If you only secure one booking on the day you have paid your stall fee.

But what if you get no bookings? Or any enquiries? Or NO ONE stops at your table?!

Do I/we have the guts to do it? To show what beauty is possible with beautiful bone china, polished silvery cutlery and vintage bibs and bobs.

So here's to a positive and successful 2012 for So Yesterday ....

p.s. I'm off to the Salvos. This time of the year is THE best for treasure hunting!!!

p.p.s. our engagement shoot was selected as one of Green Wedding Shoes favourite engagement sessions from 2011 and Style and Bride quite accurately headlined our wedding as Quirk and Colour at its Finest. We are so, so lucky!
